Palmetto shuts out Parrish 52–0 in district opener

Parrish Community’s search for its first win will stretch into October after Palmetto handed the Bulls a 52–0 home loss Friday in their district opener.

The Tigers improved to 5–1. Parrish dropped to 0–6 and 0–1 in Class 5A, District 10, suffering its first shutout of the season.

Senior running back Jacoby Thomas gave the Bulls some production on the ground, carrying 11 times for 78 yards—7.1 yards per attempt. That was an improvement on his 32 yards at Sarasota a week earlier, but it did not translate into points.

Palmetto’s posted game statistics credit the defense with six sacks and 13 tackles for loss. Maleek Lee accounted for 2½ sacks and 5½ tackles for loss, with eight total tackles. Isiah Tyson added two sacks. Those numbers help explain the size of the task facing Parrish’s offense, even with Thomas finding running room.

Palmetto’s newly posted offensive numbers show senior quarterback Matthew Hennessey completed all eight of his passes for 119 yards and a touchdown. Arturo Pierce ran for 89 yards and a score on six carries, while Ashton Kelly added two rushing touchdowns. The Tigers finished with 179 rushing yards and 123 passing yards.

The Bulls have scored seven points or fewer in three straight games: a 26–7 loss to Palm Harbor University, a 48–7 loss at Sarasota and Friday’s shutout.

They now have a week without a game before visiting Sumner on October 9. The Stingrays are 3–3 and also 0–1 in the district after losing 30–27 to Manatee on Friday. Sumner plays at Jefferson on October 2 before hosting Parrish.

The Bulls’ next kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. October 9 in Riverview.
