Jacoby Thomas has given Parrish Community 462 rushing yards and four touchdowns through four games. What the Bulls still need is a Friday night that ends with a win.

Their next chance comes September 18 at Sarasota, where the 3–1 Sailors bring a passing attack capable of making that first victory hard to find. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Parrish enters 0–4.

The matchup puts two very different offensive profiles on the same field. Parrish is averaging 132.3 rushing yards per game; Sarasota is averaging 272.5 through the air, according to the teams’ current MaxPreps statistics. For the Bulls, getting Thomas going would do more than move the ball. Sustained possessions could help keep Sailors quarterback Hudson West on the sideline.[1][2]

West enters with that 272.5-yard passing average, and receiver Jayden Rivers is averaging 93 receiving yards a game. Sarasota just beat North Port 56–13 on September 10, following a 42–0 win over Hudson.

Those results put a sharp edge on the assignment for Parrish’s defense. Senior defensive back Denver McDonald leads the Bulls at 10.5 tackles per game. This week, I’ll be watching whether Parrish can make Sarasota work down the field instead of letting a completion become a quick scoring opportunity.[2][3][1]

There were pieces to work with in last week’s 26–7 loss to Palm Harbor University. Carlton Wilkerson completed nine of 17 passes for 135 yards without an interception. Thomas ran for 65 yards and Parrish’s touchdown on 12 carries. The Bulls trailed 10–7 at halftime before being held scoreless after the break.

Putting those pieces together for four quarters is the task now. A productive rushing night would take some pressure off Wilkerson; a passing game that keeps moving would give Sarasota more to account for than Thomas alone.

Friday is a non-district game. Parrish returns home against Palmetto on September 25, so this trip is a chance to carry something better into the next home date. First, the Bulls have to deal with West, Rivers and a Sarasota team that has put up 98 points in its past two games.[4][1][3][2]
