Kayla Hawk already knows what it feels like to top a results sheet this season. The Parrish Community junior won the girls’ race at the August 22 Lemon Bay Invitational in Englewood, clocking 20:02.0. Her stated target for the season is considerably faster: breaking 18 minutes.

That ambition, reported by Alice Flaming and Rebecca Shone in the PCHS Bulletin on August 28, gives the early victory some perspective. Hawk has a race win to build on. She also has more than two minutes between that opening-meet time and the barrier she wants to break.

The Lemon Bay results are an early-season benchmark, not a report of a meet held this weekend. They offer a useful look at the runners setting the pace for coach Antwan Wright’s Bulls.[1][2]

Kai Minteer led the Parrish boys at Lemon Bay, finishing 23rd in 18:51.6. Elijah Castillo followed in 29th at 19:01.4, with Dominic Gamez 30th in 19:06.1. Only 14.5 seconds separated the Bulls’ first three finishers.

That group helped Parrish place sixth with 160 points. The girls finished 11th despite Hawk’s individual victory—a reminder that cross-country team results require depth behind the front runner.

For the boys, the close grouping gives the next races an interesting question: can they move that pack forward together? A faster individual time helps, but bringing several scoring runners past opponents is how a good day becomes a stronger team finish. That is the opportunity those opening results suggest.[1]

Minteer told the Bulletin he wants to improve both his speed and his leadership. Wright identified Minteer and Hawk as athletes to watch, while the school report described the work the team put in over the summer.

Hawk has the sharpest personal target. Minteer has a close group around him. Those are two worthwhile threads to follow as the Bulls build on their opener: how far the front runners can lower their times, and how much company they can bring with them.[2]
