Kayla Hawk gave Parrish Community a runner-up finish Saturday at the Lakewood Ranch XC Invite, completing the girls’ varsity 5K in 19:22.7.

The junior finished ahead of St. Petersburg’s Isla Trunk, who took third in 19:57.0. Riverview’s Madison Muller won in 17:54.0; Run Florida Run’s weekend roundup counted it as her fourth victory in four races this season.

Hawk has set herself a demanding target. In the PCHS Bulletin’s August season report, Alice Flaming and Rebecca Shone reported that she wants to break 18 minutes. They also identified Hawk and Kai Minteer as runners coach Antwan Wright singled out to watch. Saturday put both near the front of their respective fields.

Parrish’s girls finished tenth with 249 points. Janie Longabach placed 47th in 23:19.1, followed by Claire Hoyer in 48th at 23:19.3.

Minteer led the boys in 13th place at 17:34.2. Freshman Ian Perez followed in 29th at 18:23.1, with Vance Porter 46th in 18:59.3 and Elijah Castillo 51st in 19:07.6. The Bulls placed eighth with 220 points.

Lakewood Ranch won the girls’ team title with 62 points, while Naples took the boys’ title with 59. The September 26 meet was hosted by Lakewood Ranch High School in Bradenton and timed by Elite Timing and Event Management.[1][2][3][4]
