Ryan Davis has given Parrish Community’s swimmers an early mark to chase.

The junior won the boys 100 butterfly and broke the school record at the August 26 opener against Lakewood Ranch and Lakewood Ranch Preparatory Academy, according to Paige Harlow’s September 9 report in the PCHS Bulletin.

The result arrives alongside a different milestone: 12 boys, the program’s largest boys roster, and seven girls. Senior captain Ella Stanford leads the girls.

For coach Courtney Lancaster, more swimmers also means more decisions. She told the Bulletin that “there will be a battle for relay spots at the end of the season.”

That is the competition within the competition to follow this fall. A record swim supplies the headline; earning a place on a relay gives more of the roster a reason to watch the clock. Davis has put down his marker. How the combinations develop will be another part of Parrish’s season.

The school report does not give Davis’s record time or the meet’s team scores. It does describe weekday practices beginning at 5 a.m., with Lancaster coaching the team on her own this season.

For a program building numbers, this is a start with something concrete behind it: an individual win, a school record and more swimmers competing for places.[1]
