A college campus comes in stages
The State College of Florida project on Erie Road is easy to compress into a headline about a “new college.” The more useful picture is a campus that will develop in stages, with a first building, a larger site and separate decisions about when students can actually take classes there.
SCF’s Foundation identifies the future Parrish campus as 74 acres at 11680 Erie Road, intended to serve students east of Interstate 75 and north of the Manatee River. Its stated direction is workforce-responsive education with coordinated student support.
For families watching the area grow, the location is the long-term story: another place to pursue education on this side of the river. For someone choosing courses now, the opening schedule and available programs are the details that must come first.[1]
The building and the budget
The strongest documented milestone is a construction contract. On October 28, 2025, SCF trustees approved $33,983,264.80 for Tandem Construction to build a multipurpose building at the Parrish campus.
The accompanying board packet describes a proposed 45,000-square-foot building, site work and infrastructure within a $39,265,385 project budget. Those figures describe the first development phase. They should not be read as the cost or built size of everything that could eventually occupy the 74-acre property.
The Foundation’s public campaign page also refers to a $5 million capital initiative. That is a fundraising figure, not a replacement for the construction contract or the larger project budget. Keeping those numbers in their proper lanes makes the project considerably easier to understand.[2][3][1]
What the dates can—and cannot—tell us
The October 2025 contract recommendation anticipated construction from November 2025 through April 2027, pending approval. That provides a useful baseline for understanding the plan. It does not establish how far construction has progressed today or guarantee that classes begin immediately when a building is completed.
The public documents cited here do not confirm a first day of Parrish classes. This is a project explainer based on those records, not an announcement of a new opening date.
There is another distinction for parents: SCF has also been advancing a Parrish Collegiate School project. Its January 27, 2026 board report records approval to negotiate architecture and construction-services contracts for collegiate-school projects. That is a separate educational project reference; it should not be treated as the college campus’s course catalog or enrollment announcement.[3][4]
The question worth keeping in view
My take: a nearby college can matter most when its course schedule fits the people who live around it. A working adult needs to know when a class meets. A high-school family needs a clear enrollment path. A new building creates possibilities; the programs turn those possibilities into something usable.
For now, the verified milestones are the site, first-phase contract and stated educational direction. The next information that will make this project more useful to households is specific: available programs, enrollment details and a confirmed start for instruction in Parrish.[1]
