Choose this for an outdoor change of pace

Little Manatee River State Park is in Wimauma, outside Parrish. Florida State Parks lists its entrance at 215 Lightfoot Road and describes river scenery, trails, picnicking, and camping. For Parrish readers, it offers a nearby outing built around spending time outdoors rather than another shopping or dining stop.[1]

Read the closure notice before choosing a trail

The official park page still carries a notice that the 6.5-mile North Trail is temporarily closed, effective November 15, 2024. The age of that notice does not establish that the trail has reopened. Check current alerts and ask park staff which routes are available before setting out.

The amenities page describes an Oxbow Nature Trail loop from the main picnic area. Treat that as an option to ask staff about, not a guarantee that every section is currently accessible. A park’s general list of trails and its day-to-day conditions answer different questions.[1][3]

A flexible plan for a first visit

Begin with the ranger station’s current advice and choose the outing from there. If an appropriate route is available for your group, take a shorter walk and leave time for a picnic. If conditions do not fit the walk you wanted, change the plan instead of treating the original itinerary as an obligation.

For children or visiting relatives, start with a modest plan. You can extend a comfortable outing more easily than rescue one that was too ambitious from the beginning. Bring drinking water, suitable footwear, and the food you intend to eat.

Budget and timing

The published park hours are 8 a.m. until sundown. The fee page lists $5 per vehicle for two to eight people and $4 for a single-occupant vehicle. These are entrance charges; separate activities or overnight arrangements can have their own costs.

For two adults arriving in one vehicle, the posted entrance cost is therefore $5 before any additional purchases. For a family of four in one vehicle, the same listed vehicle rate applies. Use the current fee page if your group or mode of entry differs.[2]

Keep the outing matched to your group

Before leaving, decide how much walking everyone actually wants to do. A picnic-focused visit and a long hike require different preparation. If you are considering paddling, arrange the activity and equipment directly and confirm the conditions; do not assume a rental or suitable route will be available simply because a park has a river.

Allow enough daylight to return comfortably, follow posted closures, and leave the itinerary flexible. The park can be a worthwhile change of scenery without requiring you to complete every activity on its amenities list.
