Kayla Hawk broke 20 minutes and won Saturday’s ODA Thunder Invitational girls’ 5K. The Parrish junior ran 19:52.4, ahead of Sarasota’s Jasmine France at 20:20.7.
That put 28.3 seconds between Hawk and the runner-up. Claire Hoyer gave Parrish another top-12 finish, taking 12th in 22:29.9. The Bulls placed fifth with 137 points; Sarasota won with 35.
Parrish’s boys were closer to the team trophy. Their 81 points earned third, five behind host Out-of-Door and ten behind winner Wellen Park.
Freshman Ian Perez led the Bulls in tenth at 18:03.5. Dominic Gamez followed in 14th, Kai Minteer in 19th, Vance Porter in 23rd and Emmet Stoddard in 24th. All five finished within 86.5 seconds of one another. That group kept Parrish three points ahead of fourth-place Cardinal Mooney.[1]
Hawk had finished second at the October 3 Venice Invitational, running 20:17.8 behind Riverview’s Madison Muller. Hoyer was 19th there in 24:24.1, while Parrish’s girls finished third and the boys second.
Perez was the Bulls’ third boy home at Venice, placing 15th in 19:17.9 behind teammates Kai Minteer and Elijah Castillo. His leading finish at ODA gives Parrish another name at the front of its scoring group.
The two courses and fields differ, so the raw times do not establish a personal best or a straight measure of improvement.[2][1]
